The Top 5 Things to do in Marlow

There is so much to do in our local area. So many towns, villages and hamlets to visit which are steeped with natural beauty and charm.  On today’s list of of top local areas to visit is the beautiful riverside town of Marlow in Buckinghamshire.  For such a small town, it is absolutely thriving with life, high end fashion shops and great places for wining and dining.  It is also renown for having one of the most beautiful views of the Thames. Once home to Mary and Percy Shelly, Marlow is definitely worth a visit for an explore. Whether by yourself or in a group there is plenty to do and well worth stopping for if you are passing through. Year round there is plenty to do and also has exciting events to attend dotted throughout the year as well.

1.) Marlow – the Foodie Hotspot

Number one on our list is to visit one of Marlow’s many many restaurants and bars.  It is home to the only two michelin starred pub in England called the Hand & Flowers.  This lovely pub needs to be booked in advance so be sure to visit their website to make a booking as walk-ins are not possible.  The pub specialises in gourmet English food, but cooked with all the prowess of a 2 michelin star restaurant. It is a restaurant  to delight anybody and perfect for special occasions.  If not – pub owner Tom Kerridge also owns the Coach in Marlow which is also michelin starred and takes walk-ins only.

So if you are popping to Marlow on the off chance then the Coach is perfect if you.  Other fantastic restaurants include award winning curry house Malik’s and also the Compleat Angler restaurant which sits with stunning views of the river Thames.  Newly arrived in the last year was The Ivy.  So as you can see Marlow is brimming with top restaurants to dine at. And the ones listed don’t even begin to scratch the surface of how many places there are to dine at.

2.) Visit Marlow Town Regatta in the Summer

Marlow has two regattas, sort of. For the athletes taking part in some serious rowing and sculling races, then Marlow Regatta has relocated to Dorney Lake, which hosted the rowing races in the London Olympics in 2020.

Marlow Town Regatta, now more focussed on school races and of course the odd dragon boat race is tremendous fun. You can either choose to watch the races for free or you can buy tickets to the prestigious enclosure area of the regatta.  Both are an opportunity to dress up in your finest wear with a hat in the same style as you would for Henley.  Parking during this time is extremely difficult and alcohol is aplenty.  So if you are looking for a safe, punctual driver to get your group there then ask us for a an affordable quote here.

3.)   Rebellion Beer Co. Ltd

Marlow is also famous for its local brewery the Rebellion Beer Co. Ltd.  You can either pop in to visit or go to one of their organised tours and tastings.  This is in Marlow as you are heading out of town but a great place to visit and perfect for parties or stag do’s if you are looking for an activity in the area of Marlow.

4.)  Enjoy the beauty of Marlow Bridge and the River Thames

The view from Higginson / Steve Redgrave park is truly astonishing and postcard perfect.  The lush greenery of the park leads to the river bank where the Marlow Bridge and All Saints Church frame the landscape for the perfect photo opportunity.

There are always swans and ducks to feed, as well as a Mr Whippy machine closely to enjoy a nice ice-cream while strolling along the river.  You can walk all the way up to Bisham if you have the time for a beautiful countryside walk, or just to the Marlow weir if you have less time.

If you take a stroll along West Street, you’ll find the former homes of Mary and Percy Bysshe Shelly and T.S Eliot. Whilst a visit to The Two Brewers pub may remind you of the scenes from Jerome K Jerome’s Three Men in a Boat.

5.) Pub in the Park

17-19th May, it is the local celebrity again Tom Kerridge who has organised pub in the pub.  Packed with activities.  Bursting with entertainment for young and old.   PITP is the chance to drink and enjoy street food at this  great family event.  This event is brilliant for large groups looking for an exciting day trip.  Be sure to book tickets though as this event sells out!  Set in Higginson Park, it attracts huge amounts of people and has really put Marlow on the map!
