With Christmas just a few days away, no doubt you’re all busy planning what you’re going to do over the festive break but if you’re intending on going on a road trip somewhere, do bear in mind that you certainly won’t be the only ones on the road!
Research from the RAC has just revealed that up to 20 million individual leisure trips will take place in the run-up to Christmas, with Thursday 20th and Friday 21st December likely to be some of the worst days for driving, with 2.5 million and 2.8 million individual journeys predicted to betaken respectively.
Boxing Day, meanwhile, is forecast to see a peak in traffic, with 6.8 million individual trips likely to be taken as people cross the country to visit friends and family. December 27th is also looking relatively busy, with 4.4 million journeys expected to be taken.
Mark Souster, RAC patrol of the year, said: “It’s vitally important every driver planning a trip gives their car a once over to make sure it’s up to the job, as a single breakdown can bring some roads to a grinding halt, slowing down the Christmas getaway for all of us.
“A few moments spent checking things like fuel, oil, coolant and screen wash levels and the condition and pressure of tyres could make the difference between a stress-free journey and one plagued by a breakdown. It might feel like yet another thing to think about before Christmas but it’s a fact that many of the breakdowns we see are avoidable if drivers just do these few checks before they set out.”
Graham Madge from the Met Office further advised people to check the weather before they travel so they know what conditions they might face and can therefore adequately prepare.
If a lot of you are travelling and you want to take the stress and strain out of your yuletide journeys this year, what about arranging Buckinghamshire coach hire to take you and the rest of your family where you need to go.
That way, even if you do end up stuck in a traffic jam you can still entertain each other and leave the stress of the journey to your coach driver! Just remember to pack a few card games, lots of books and some food and drink, and you could have yourself a bus party!
Those of you planning on hopping on a plane and jetting off to warmer climes at this time of year might also want to consider booking minibus hire or similar to get you to the airport so you don’t have to worry about driving, parking your car, rushing around and ensuring that you catch your flight.
